Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with .NET Framework 4.x (included with Windows).
- The Long Drive on Steam, on beta build
named in the release notes.
Install
- Close the game.
- Download
the installerfrom the latest release. - If it's a .zip, extract it. Run
TheLongDrive-Roadworthy.exeand click Install. - Start the game. The version label in the menu shows the Roadworthy version.
The installer doesn't modify your saves. For multiplayer, the host and every player joining need the same version.
Update
Run the new installer. It detects the installed version, builds and verifies the new one, and only then replaces the old patch. It keeps recovery copies and won't replace a newer version with an older one.
The installer also checks GitHub for a newer release when it opens. It doesn't download anything on its own and works offline.
Uninstall
Run the installer and click Restore original, or run Restore Original.cmd. This puts the original game files back. Backups that have been changed are refused rather than overwritten.
Report a bug
- Press F11 in game. This saves a feedback bundle with your logs.
- Open an issue on GitHub, describe what happened, and attach the bundle.
- For multiplayer bugs, attach bundles from both the host and the guest.
Performance logs
Optional logs that time the game's systems, to help find what causes a stutter. They are off by default.
- To turn them on, create an empty file named
tldmp-diagnostics.onnext toTheLongDrive.exe, or setTLD_MP_DIAGNOSTICS=1, then restart the game. - Logs are written to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TheLongDrive-Roadworthy\diagnostics. - To capture a problem: wait for loading to finish, stay idle for 15 seconds, then repeat one problem for 30 to 60 seconds and press F11.
The logs use some CPU. Turn them off when comparing FPS.
